Just reviewing the league rules, and I think it's a bit odd that there's no trading deadline. Most (if not all) leagues I've been a part of have had a trading deadline, and it adds additional strategy to the league, and usually generates some league activity around the trading deadline.
I'm not sure it needs to be like the actual MLB, where there's a deadline of July 31st, but afterwards a trade can be made (until Aug 31st) as long as the players involved clear waivers, but it might not be a bad idea.
Why not do it just like they do in real life?
So, my proposal: * Non-waiver trading deadline - August 31st * All players involved in trades after Aug 31st must clear 1-week waivers.
Thoughts?

The old commish turned off the deadline so i just kept that until we figured it out. I kind of forgot about it after that. I'm happy to implement one...trades are again permitted though after the season ends, so there would just be a 1 month period of having not trades, right?
What would the one week waiver period do? I don't think i can set that on yahoo to be one way before Aug 31 and another after...just don't want it to get too confusing.
I don't really have a problem with no deadline and just have trades be possible all year, but i'd like to hear everyone's input and take it to a vote before deciding anything permanent.

We could always try a no trade deadline in 2008 and if we don't like it change the rule for 2009. I haven't seen many leagues without one either, so it might be fun to try out. If we do institute a deadline I'd vote for keeping it simple (and probably easier on the commish) rather then adding the waiver period as well.
I'm not particular though, just my thoughts.

Yeah, I agree that simpler is better and I don't have a strong preference.
I do think that a trading deadline of some type adds some strategy to the league that might not otherwise be there. It also adds a safeguard against player dumping by teams eliminated from the playoffs.

I would say no trading during our playoffs or real life playoffs. Say something like mid Sept. to Nov. 1st that would be like a 45 day break and then the trading could begin in the offseason. We could still talk trades, just nothing official until Nov. 1st.
Any other suggestions?

I'd like to see it set a few of weeks before the playoffs begin (mid August) just to force teams that may be on the bubble to make decisions. Teams are more likely to make a deal if they're still in the playoff hunt.

That makes sense.
Maybe do something like Aug 16th-Nov 1st as a no-trade period.

I agree with a trade deadline arund aug 16. However I am unsure why no trades until Nov 1st. I am not sure why once the season is over people can't trade players.

I don't necessarily mind restricting trades until Nov 1, just not sure what the reason would be. I'd recommend mid August through the end of the regular season.

No real reason. It just gives everyone a break to watch the World Series and then when baseball is over we could pick back up again.
I really makes no difference to me. But, I think we should stop trading at least 2 weeks before our playoffs begin (around Aug. 16th).

I've changed the constitution to reflect a trading deadline of Aug 16 with trade opened back up at the end of our season.
